"Anything in the top six would be okay, but the Champions League would be a good season".

He has ambitions to be a manager in his own right and as a former England and Chelsea captain, can offer Derby the profile and Premier League connections they enjoyed with Lampard.

"As far as Jorginho goes, if Sarri's announced on Monday, I'm Chelsea, I sell Jorginho on Tuesday", Hislop said. In his time in London, he guided the side back to the Champions League and also won the Europa League.

Redknapp - who managed teams including Portsmouth, Southampton, West Ham, Tottenham and QPR - revealed he had personally told Derby chairman Mel Morris to hire Lampard, who he says "wasn't even on the radar".

"No one is expecting him to finish first or second, third maybe".

Morris is the former Under-18s head coach at Chelsea and has worked with numerous loan and youth players that he and Lampard will be encouraged to use next season due to FIFA's imposed transfer ban. "If he makes the Champions League next year, he's going to be a success", added Redknapp.

Lampard's assistant manager Jody Morris is likely to be the first name on his list to join him back at the club where he became the all-time leading scorer with 211 goals.

Morris and Edwards have worked closely together in the past at the club's academy, and with the two-window Federation Internationale de Football Association transfer ban in place, they will play a big role in helping to introduce some of the youngsters into senior squad.

Although Derby are keen for Lampard to remain at the club and no formal approach has been made, a report by ESPN suggests Chelsea will make a move for their former midfielder this week.

"It could be an interesting time for Chelsea, they are going to have to play some of their kids, give them a go. You may have something special there".
