Dalai Lama Says His Successor, if Female, ‘Must Be More Attractive’

The Dalai Lama is yet to meet with President Trump, and this is largely due to Trump's close connection with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He said the fact Donald Trump wants America to be first is "wrong". He suggested Europe should be kept for Europeans.

The Dalai Lama has expressed concern over Europe becoming a "Muslim country" or an "African country".

A female successor to the Dalai Lama must be "more attractive", the spiritual leader has claimed in an interview, explaining if she wasn't, people would "prefer not to see her face".

Vaidyanathan also asked the Dalai Lama about a statement he made in 2015, that a female Dalai Lama "must be attractive". He continued, "A limited number is OK, but the whole of Europe [will] eventually become Muslim country, African country - impossible".

When asked about Brexit, the Dalai Lama extended his inherently global view of the world. If this happened, the Dalai Lama said, the female successor must be "very attractive".

Dalai Lama: His emotions also, little bit...too complicated.

"Yes, I think both", the Dalai Lama replied. I'm outsider but I feel better [to] remain in the union.

It said: "The goal should be that migrants return and help rebuild their countries". You have to be practical. The Dalai Lama, who himself has fled to India as a refugee with 10,000 other Tibetans almost 60 years ago, said that European countries should make refugees return to their countries after training them with necessary skills.

Do you think China's growing influence is having an impact on your own influence and the cause of Tibet?

"A lot of women would say that's objectifying women, and it's about who you are inside, isn't it?" the BBC's Rajini Vaidyanathan said.
