Sunshine Coast-based Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards was speaking to media outside Maroochydore Police Station yesterday when a man in a red hoodie attempted to interrupt him.

A 9 News Sunshine Coast managed to film the moment that Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards heard a kerfuffle going on behind the press conference, turned to see a man being pursued, and chose to intercept that man with a tackle.

News.com.au understands the man is a Hungarian national and is known to police. Four police officers later appeared to arrest the man, who was allegedly making inappropriate comments to a young woman.

"In Queensland when you have my (bald) hairstyle you have to go to the sun specialist quite often, so I had a few burned off last week in that particular area ... which enhanced it".

"You never know what (the job) will bring", Edwards said, "Suit was ready for a dry-clean anyway", Reuters reports.

"Young police, fairly inexperienced police, around the country and the world today, get faced with those type of things every day and have to make a split decision to take the action they do, they have got to justify it and that's the hard thing".

"Fortunately we've stopped this male from continuing on his behaviour, which seems to be a course of conduct (for him)".

Snr Sgt Edwards said the reaction to his swift action had been a little embarrassing.
