It would be interesting to see whether this new retail strategy from Xiaomi will be successful in India, where most of the people believe in experiencing the products from the retailers rather than a vending machine. Basically, the Mi Express Kiosks are vending machines which allow consumers to purchase Xiaomi smartphones and mobile accessories directly. We're also imagining more Xiaomi products may be available.

The Mi Express Kiosk comes as Xiaomi tries to expand its footprint in the offline market, and seeks to strengthen and maintain its position as the number one smartphone vendor in the Indian smartphone market. "All the technology equipping Mi Express kiosks has been researched and developed in India, further extending the brand's commitment to India", Xiaomi said in a statement. The first Mi Express Kiosk was installed at the Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru, the company's India head revealed in a tweet on Monday. To make it even more convenient and hassle-free for users, the vending machines will use different payment methods like credit cards, debit cards, UPI, and cash to accept payments for the purchase. There is a large touch display on the right for operating the machine. The kiosk will also have a slot to print the billing receipts.

Photos shared on Twitter by Xiaomi ahead of the launch today showed the kiosk loaded with earphones, selfie sticks, power banks, chargers, Bluetooth speakers and phones from Xiaomi and Redmi.

These Mi Express Kiosks will be found across metro cities in public areas with greater footfall such as tech parks, metro stations, airports, and shopping malls.

Also, the setting and operating costs are not at a higher side in comparison to having a proper outlet which makes Mi reach a wider consumer base and at the same time tackle the problem of having an adequate supply of their products in comparison to the demand. As of now, Xiaomi says the kiosks will "soon be installed throughout the metro cities", and adds that consumers can access information about kiosk locations via its India site - Mi.com.
