Even after six years overseeing a city of more than 8 million people, de Blasio faces an uphill battle to stand out among the Democratic contenders, who include former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and liberal icons like U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of MA.

"Hey, Con Don I saw your video and man you looked really low energy". There's plenty of money in this country.

Bill De Blasio becomes 23rd Democrat to join the race; reaction and analysis from SteynOnline.com's Mark Steyn. "It's about working people, and in the end, people should trust somebody who's already done it".

De Blasio's hometown press has, so far, delighted in disparaging his presidential hopes.

In 2014, de Blasio attended the Island's annual Groundhog Day Ceremony and dropped the animal after its handler put it in his arms.

The Police Benevolent Association of the City of NY joined the press in blasting de Blasio, warning he would be an "unmitigated disaster" if elected president. Johnson would be the first openly gay mayor in New York City history.

President Donald Trump also went out of his way to personally slam the mayor's presidential bid taking to Twitter right before he announced and then shooting a video on Air Force One where he criticized de Blasio's decision. "While the mayor of our nation's largest city is busy running around Iowa and getting upstaged by the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, there are real problems here at home".

"Every New Yorker knows he's a con artist". During his tenure as mayor, de Blasio been openly hostile to law enforcement.

The mayor should have a head start on the plans as he served as a regional U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development director under former President Bill Clinton.

Well, only pro-crime, pro-high-tax voters will support him, according to Trump.
