Hindujas top 2019 list of Britain's wealthiest

Sri and Gopi Hinduja overtook chemicals businessman Jim Ratcliffe who dropped to third on the list with a fortune of 23.6 billion dollars.

The two brothers topped the newspaper list in 2014 and in 2017.

The combined wealth of Britain's billionaires has reached £524.84bn, up from £480.45bn previous year, a 9.2 per cent rise.

Some of the biggest hike in profits past year came from London-registered Hinduja Automotive, which includes North Yorkshire bus maker Optare and saw profits rise by 50 per cent to 337 million pounds on 3.5 billion pounds sales in 2017-18.

In second place are another set of billionaire brothers - David and Simon Reuben.

Billionaires and multimillionaires are said to be making plans to protect their fortunes, which include moving their assets and businesses overseas, in preparation of tax increases should the Labour leader enter Downing Street.

Inventor Sir James Dyson - who campaigned for Brexit and has announced he would be relocating his company headquarters to Singapore - comes in at fifth on the list, up from 12th previous year.

"On the face of it this looks like a bumper year for the super-rich, with record wealth, more billionaires and the entry level rising to 120 million pounds".

The Thomson family, owners of the Evening Express and Press and Journal, came in seventh on the Scottish list, boasting wealth of £1.401bn.

"But numerous rich are nursing big losses after a year of turbulence on the stock market and political deadlock in Westminster".

However, while other young people in the top 10 of the list can count their families for the reason for their huge fortunes, a number of music artists, footballers, and actors rank highly. The group produces whiskey including Grant's, Glenfiddich and The Balvenie, as well as Hendrick's gin.

Indian-born industrialist brother, Sri and Gopichand Hinduja, reclaimed the title of Britain's wealthiest by posting fortunes of 22 billion pounds to their name.

NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul logged a 500 million pounds hike in his fortune to jump up from 90th in 2018 to 69th this year, with an estimated fortune of 2 billion pounds.

Top of the Music Rich List in the United Kingdom - which includes writers and performers - was Andrew Lloyd Webber with a fortune of 820 million pounds.
