"Every decision the USA administration has taken since has simply confirmed its disregard for Palestinian lives, for Palestinian rights" and for the two-state solution, he said. "From the river, to the sea, Palestine will be free", she said.

On 11 May, Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi joined thousands of people demonstrating for Palestinian rights.

The London march took place just a week after an Israeli assault on Gaza killed over 20 Palestinians, including two pregnant women and two infants.

In the week when Palestinians commemorate their dispossession in 1948, we are marching to send a clear message that we stand in solidarity with them, and to call again on the United Kingdom government to end its complicity with Israel's illegitimate control of Palestinian lives. The UK government should instead unequivocally condemn the killing of demonstrators - including children, paramedics and journalists - and other civilians, and freeze arms sales to Israel.

Emeritus Patriarch Michele Sabbah recently wrote: "The solution is simple if Israel restores discernment, namely if it want to recognise that the Palestinian people have the same rights as the Israeli people do, all being equal in humanity".

The National Demonstration for Palestine followed a week-long exchange of air raids and rockets that killed at least 25 Palestinians and four Israelis.

Pat Gaffney, from Pax Christi, told ICN: "The large turn out at the Rally for Palestine indicates the on-going call to work for peace in the region".

The papers said that three Palestinians youths were injured with rubber-coated steel bullets during clashes that erupted with Israeli forces in the village of Kafr Qaddum, to the east of the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilia.

The Trump administration is expected to roll out the long-awaited plan, possibly as early as next month, but the Palestinians have already rejected it as heavily biased in favor of Israel.

The embassy's move from Tel Aviv - an worldwide first - confirms Trump's announcement in December that Washington would recognize the holy city as Israel's capital, infuriating Palestinians who see east Jerusalem as the capital of their own future state.
