He'll take on Moldova's Radu Albot, who survived a mid-match surge from Nick Kyrgios to advance 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in a match marred by the Australian's outbursts at a fan and linesman.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova came back to edge Hsieh Su-wei 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 Friday and reach the Dubai Championships final. I know I'm far, far, far away from that.

But Kvitova, the champion in Dubai in 2013, switched things up in the second set and raced into a 4-1 lead before claiming the set to force a decider.

Kvitova, however, stepped up her game in the second to break Bencic three times and bagged the set with some powerful forehand returns and by coming up to the net. She has made an impressive start to 2019, now into her third final of the season following her title run in Sydney and a final finish at the Australian Open.

In the other semifinal Bencic once again upset the odds to overcome world No. 6 Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-3, 7-6.

The 21-year-old Bencic last won a title in Toronto 2015 before the former world number seven's career was blighted by a series of back and wrist injuries. Kvitova was the runner-up in Melbourne.

"I still kind of felt that I can do that somehow. It was really seeing who I play first round". "I feel much freer".

"It was a tough one today, for sure". She played very well.

"We agreed that the next title I won, we would go skydiving", the Swiss said after ending a four-year trophy drought, explaining that the dare-devil plan may not please her father and coach, Ivan. "With her, I need to be a little bit patient. It's not really that easy to make those winners against her".

The new approach paid dividends and Kvitova began reeling off winners at will as she held her serve to get in front before wrapping up the win.

Hsieh Su-wei won the last six games to beat fourth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 yesterday in Dubai and will face a woman she has never beaten, Petra Kvitova, in the semi-finals.

Switzerland's Belinda Bencic celebrates after defeating Romania's Simona Halep in their quarterfinal match of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
