Taylor, 40, was irate there were no straws available in the dining room. It's a way for businesses to adjust before a ban on single-use plastic straws takes effect in January 2020.

"He was yelling and walking toward the counter and the young lady behind the counter told him that is the law now, we're not allowed to have straws in the lobby", said Biandudi. This McDonald's, however, appeared to have started complying early.

Footage recorded by another customer shows a man - later identified by police as Daniel Taylor - reaching across the counter of a McDonald's on 34th Street South in St. Pete on New Year's Eve.

The employee continues shouting as she is escorted away by a co-worker, while a man in a McDonald's uniform steps up to the counter and addresses the belligerent customer. Her video shows the worker, 20-year-old Yasmine James, repeatedly punching the man after he grabbed her by the shirt and pulled her forward.

Seconds later, James started whaling on the man, punch after punch. This prompts the woman to retort, "No, you're going to jail!" "I was just asking you a question, b*tch!"

When police arrived, she talked to officers and gave them the video of the incident.

Alcohol was likely a factor in the incident, said St. Petersburg police spokeswoman Sandra Bentil.

"The young girl said she used to box", she wrote. "There was a strong indication there that he was drunk".

Calls to the St. Petersburg McDonald's were not answered on Wednesday.

Taylor said the employees weren't doing their jobs.

The male employees were also called out for not immediately protecting James or trying to subdue Taylor.

Taylor remains in Pinellas County jail on a total $1,000 bond; $500 on each count. The arrest report described him as a transient. "He reached across and tried to grab her and hit her", she said.

A representative of the St Petersburg Police Department told Yahoo Lifestyle that the security tape is not being released at this stage of the investigation.

A witness who posted video on Facebook said the fight started when the customer asked for a straw. That is not true.

Taylor responded, "I couldn't control you". I just know how to fight.

She told the website that her back and thigh were injured in the attack.

On the first day in a long time when Brenda Biandudi found herself in a McDonald's, nothing could have prepared her for what was in store.

He wanted a straw at a Florida McDonald's. She has also contacted a lawyer.

In the video, Taylor forcefully grabs James by her shirt's collar and pulls her towards him on the counter. I just know how to fight. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this, but I am so happy you were strong and defended yourself.
