The 21-year-old did score a hat trick in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk but has found it tough after a disappointing World Cup where he failed to score as Brazil were dumped out in the quarterfinals.

"I wouldn't say it's impossible because I don't believe in that word but it's as hard as you will get in football".

But Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan both scored in the second half as Guardiola's men extended their lead at the top of the league to five points.

"We just relax", Guardiola said. I know when I did it I was not happy to have done it. The champions went ahead after Asmir Begovic could only parry Leroy Sane's shot, and Bernardo Silva was on hand to sweep in the rebound.

Sterling had scored in each of his previous five fixtures against Bournemouth, including a hat-trick in October 2015, and he struck after 57 minutes at the Etihad Stadium to settle City's nerves.

Aguero missed City's 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday with a muscle strain.

In the dying minutes of the first half, striker Callum Wilson drew Bournemouth level when he got on the other end of a cross by defender Simon Francis and headed the ball home.

Roy Hodgson's team finally ended their drought from open play in freaky fashion when James McArthur's 16th minute cross was missed by players from both teams, hit the far post and trickled into the net.

The Hornets are however without a win in their last four league games.

Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus has opened up about his future at Manchester City after being restricted to just three Premier League starts this season. Huddersfield took the lead after 55 seconds, with Mathias Jorgensen heading in from a sliced Bruno clearance.

Steve Mounie was given his marching orders after 32 minutes and Shane Duffy levelled on the stroke of half-time before Florin Andone bagged the victor midway through the second half. Watford were unable to threaten Leicester and their misery was compounded when Etienne Capoue was sent off in second half stoppage time.

Leicester climbed above visitors Watford into seventh after a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium.

Crystal Palace earned their first home win of the season as they beat Burnley 2-0 while Brighton fought back to beat 10-man Huddersfield 2-1.
