The new Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised his under-performing players that he would not judge them on their stuttering season so far and that all of them would be given a fresh chance to prove anew that they belonged at the club. If he wants the job, then he's definitely the man.

Scholes was also critical of United's players and said he believed they had let Mourinho down with their performances this season.

"It's down to man-management". I don't think anyone has been on the bench more than me! I have to say I've had the best as teacher - the boss [Sir Alex Ferguson] is and will always be the best at how you manage people.

Howe has no interest in Manchester United Tottenham speculation

Like many Manchester United players, Shaw will be hoping for a fresh start under Solskjaer, starting in south Wales this weekend.

"We'll get the players enjoying football and I'm looking forward to seeing the supporters again". As much as you don't like your manager you've still got your own personal pride and you're playing for the football club.

"Even if he doesn't get Champions League qualification he can still be a success based on what they show on and off the pitch".

"The last game he had as a manager was the 5-5 draw against West Brom. To be the kids that love to play football and go out in front of the best fans in the world".

Although Solskjaer is deified among some United supporters for his contributions as a player, the unusual arrangement has raised questions, particularly regarding his power over players and influence on squad building. "Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane both had lesser roles at Barcelona and Real Madrid before taking the reins to great success - but Ole earned this opportunity through his good work in Norway and coaching at United".

"He's been my mentor".

The Daily Mail understands that this injury was the subject of Shaw and Mourinho's final spat, as Shaw's decision to declare himself unfit angered the manager. Ever since my injury in 2003 at least, I was making all the notes on what he did in certain situations.

"A new lifestyle, a different league and a historic club with the grandeur of United that are going under a lot of pressure".

In the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, Solskjaer has more quality at his disposal than when he was at Cardiff.

He said: "You certainly get to see the players in a game, in a pressure situation, but I think the amount of games coming up is no problem because you've got this wonderful squad of players".
