Lonzo Ball not aware of his greatness, LeBron James says

Lakers and National Basketball Association reporter for ESPN. Simmons had two points and three assists in the quarter, giving Orlando its first lead of the game on a lay-up with 23 seconds to go before James knocked down a 3 at the buzzer.

"He's got our number this year", James said. "And you live with the results".

The Lakers' Kentavious Caldwell-Pope missed another shot from beyond the arc on the following Lakers possession, and Gordon got a dunk to help seal the victory for the Magic. This shouldn't be a newsflash.

"I'm just faster than a lot of people out there", he said.

Caldwell-Pope shot just 1-of-7 on the night, but was excellent defensively, coming up with a career-high five steals.

The "Is He More Michael or Magic?" debate is exhausted at this point.

James thinks Ball can make even more of an impact if he backs himself.

End-of-game situations are, by their nature, consequential. The Jazz shot 38.8 percent from the field, and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Laker coach Luke Walton focused less on the end of game flaws than on the hole they had dug earlier in the game.

"KCP's one of our best shooters", Walton said.

Without Mitchell, the Jazz lost their third straight game to the Lakers at Staples Center.

Add it up, and the numbers show the Lakers were outscored by 14 points with LeBron on the floor. That defensive focus was evident early in the Sunday game as the Lakers held Orlando to 19 points in the first quarter.

Terrence Ross had 16 points including a clutch layup with 34 seconds left as the Magic beat the Lakers for the second time in eight days.

Utah's 83 points were the second-lowest scoring output of the season. They didn't protect the ball again, racking up 18 turnovers against the Magic - six of them belonging to James.

"It's tough for teams to guard us on pick-and-rolls because (Vucevic) can shoot so well", Augustin said after beating the Lakers. The best thing about it, when we was turning the ball over, but we still held them in the half court. "We'll continue to harp on that".

That's the real effect of Sunday's game.

It wasn't by any means the most attractive win, but the Los Angeles Lakers muscled by the Utah Jazz 90-83 on Friday night to grab their third straight win. It happens to young teams.

But there needs to be an urgency to get Los Angeles through this season considering at 11-8, they might be just 2 games back from first in the West, but they're also only 2½ games ahead of 13th. The Lakers lost the first three games within that margin, but have won the past five.
