President Trump on Wednesday accused the Chinese government of actively trying to interfere in the midterm elections.

President Trump accused China of "attempting to interfere" in the upcoming USA midterm elections as he chaired a high-stakes meeting of the U.N. Security Council here Wednesday, asserting the Chinese government is bent on meddling in American politics out of frustration over his administration's bare-knuckle trade posture toward Beijing.

China has responded to Mr. Trump's tariffs by targeting higher duties on USA farm exports, hitting especially hard at Mr. Trump's GOP base in Midwestern and southern states.

Speaking with reporters Wednesday after his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he does not know the timeline of the publication of Trump's Israeli-Palestinian peace plan. "Against my administration", Trump told a U.N. Security Council meeting whose ostensible subject was nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Trump has been heavily criticized by the Palestinians for a series of moves that they say show distinct bias toward Israel, starting with his recognition a year ago of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

US President Donald Trump: "I like two-state solution".

Although Trump himself won't face a re-election fight until 2020, Congressional voting in November will decide which party controls the US House of Representatives and the Senate. "China has also targeted state and local governments critical of officials".

In the latest salvo, USA tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods and retaliatory taxes by Beijing on $60 billion worth of US products kicked in on Monday, unnerving global financial markets. Beijing has responded by targeting US goods headed to China.

President Trump: "Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election".

US officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment. That's also what I said in the meeting: Will it be Costa Rica or Iran? He also vowed to continue to impose sanctions on Iran.

But they added they are concerned about activity from Russia, China, Iran and North Korea.

While Iran has made clear that it has little interest in opening talks with the United States since Washington's abrogation of the accord, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Trump in June about his country's nuclear program.

The US midterms elections are due to take place in November 2018.

Mr Trump moved away from decades of USA policy calling for an independent Palestinian state previous year, when he said he would be happy with a one-state solution if both parties wanted it.

The U.S.' exchange with China comes as a trade war between the two nations intensified.
