The Thane Police on Friday summoned actor-producer Arbaaz Khan in connection with an Indian Premier League betting scam, Hindustan Times reported.

"Arbaaz placed bets during one of the past IPL seasons through Jalan", a senior officer associated with the probe said. "His software called "Bet and Take" is quite famous among bookies and is used by them in India and internationally as well", inspector Rajkumar Kotmire of the Thane anti-extortion cell had revealed, says Mid-Day.

The police said, "The names of a Bollywood celebrity, contractors and builders are mentioned in the diary and we have got the list of bookies and are verifying it with Sonu Jalan". While now media reports on the same are sketchy, it is learnt that Arbaaz has been summoned with the intention of him joining the probe into the betting racket. It is a huge betting scam that is predicted to be in the range of 500-600 crore and the police are trying to find out from Arbaaz what role he has in the entire scene.

The police had recently caught a betting ring and they had also arrested the 42-year old Sonu Batla. "We are interrogating him about these links and about his money".

In those days, Jalan was working with a big bookie who went by the name Junior Calcutta. The police said Jalan travelled to Sri Lanka during an worldwide tournament in 2016 and a probe is on to find out if there was any betting-linked match-fixing at the time.

Jalan had been arrested for betting on IPL matches by the Mumbai crime branch in 2012 too, the official added.

Arbaaz Khan's connection in the IPL betting case left Twitterati feeling disappointed.
