The father of Olympic champion Katie Taylor has has been injured in a shooting at his boxing club.

Gardai are now at the scene of the shooting at Bray Boxing Club in The Harbour, Co Wicklow.

The attack took place just before 7am this morning when a gunman entered the premises and fired a number of shots.

Gardaí say the gunman left the scene in a white or silver van, possibly a Ford make, had British reg plates.

The van, which had yellow northern Irish registration plates, was abandoned on Pigeon House Road at approximately 8.05am, where a male was seen leaving the van and cycling away.

Gardai said the body of the dead man remains at the scene pending the arrival of the state pathologist.

Three men are in serious condition after they were shot in Wicklow.

The chairman of Bray Municipal Council, Chris Fox, confirmed that Mr Taylor was one of those shot.

Pete Taylor, a native of England and a former amateur champion, was an electrician before turning his attention to training his daughter and numerous other amateurs.
