In another big Kentucky Derby win, a Las Vegas gambler placed a 300-to-1 futures bet on Justify winning the Kentucky Derby at the Wynn sportsbook in February, before the colt even was guaranteed a spot in the race. That fifth race happened to be the Kentucky Derby.

"This track had me anxious but when he got away I knew we had a chance".

Justify took the lead on the far turn and charged into the backstretch.

"I think this horse is as special as American Pharoah to win a race like this, especially the way he did it", Baffert said.

Margaret Reid walked away with a cool $1.2 million when Justify won the Kentucky Derby, reports CBS San Antonio affiliate KENS-TV. "Then Mike took his time".

Smith, who won the Derby on Giacomo in 2005, said the victory was due to the horse. Justify's team reportedly made $1.4 million.

"Him and American Pharoah and Arrogate, they're just cut from a different (cloth)", Baffert said. "He has got the mind for it". The winning time was 2:04.20.

Justify captured the opening leg of U.S. flat racing's Triple Crown, which continues in two weeks at the Preakness in Baltimore, Maryland, and concludes with June's Belmont Stakes in NY. Chad Brown, the trainer of Good Magic, said after the race that he would not take his horse to the Preakness. The Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York, is June 9 at Belmont Park.

Despite the soggy conditions, the total attendance of 157,813 for the 14-race card marked the eighth-largest crowd in the race's history.
