NFL Draft Fantasy Reaction: Landing in Denver makes Royce Freeman a sleeper

The Denver Broncos turned their attention to bolstering their anemic offense Friday when general manager John Elway selected SMU wide receiver Courtland Sutton and OR running back Royce Freeman.

After adding dominant pass-rusher Bradley Chubb in the first round of the National Football League draft, the Denver Broncos primarily bolstered the offensive side of the ball in Friday's second and third rounds. Freeman might even shatter expectations of being a short-yardage back, as he left OR as the school's leading rusher, despite missing time due to injuries.

At that point, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos were prepared to swap the number-five pick with Buffalo for the Bills' two first-round slots, at twelve and 22 respectively.

"We got better on the offensive side - no question", general manager John Elway said, "in kind of some areas that we needed some players".

At 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds, Sutton will give Case Keenum another big, physical red-zone target to go with receiver Demaryius Thomas and second-year tight end Jake Butt, who missed his rookie year while recovering from knee surgery.

"I am very new to the position".

"I loved playing safety, but I feel like in my heart I was a true receiver", Sutton said.

"What it shows to us is durable", Elway said.

"I am a guy who is going to come to the field and demand respect wherever I am on the field - whether it is in the slot, whether it is on the outside, on the right or the left", Sutton said during a conference call.

Miller had to wade through wave after wave of double teams in the pass rush last season, so his giddiness of having Chubb as a teammate is understandable.

Von Miller went absolutely BONKERS after the Broncos drafted Bradley Chubb Thursday night - screaming from the top of his Vegas hotel. even getting his own daddy in on the party!

Elway insisted he was also surprised to see Sutton there at No. 40 on Friday. When the Cleveland Browns selected Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward at No. 4, the Broncos were able to swoop in to snare Chubb - the most technically sound, impactful pass-rusher on the board.

"That is really what we're excited about because I think it's contagious", Elway said Friday. I always wanted to be around the ball.
