Following the rescue operation, Leicestershire Police Superintendent Shane O'Neill said: "There are now five confirmed fatalities and a number of people still undergoing treatment in hospital".

Leicestershire Police said the three men arrested yesterday are all in their 30s and investigators are now questioning them in connection with the fire.

"We acknowledge that the bad events of Sunday night in Hinckley Road have attracted significant public, political and media interest", the statement continued.

The police further said: " One man comes from East Anglia, the second from the North West of the country, and the third from the East Midlands".

"According to my mate, vodka and gin was being made and that caused the explosion".

Leah (18) is believed to have been in the flat above the supermarket with 18-year-old boyfriend Shane Rajoobeer, his mum Mary (46) and brother Sean (17) when the blast occured.

Both are in police custody where they will be questioned by detectives.

The blast, which left three members of the same family dead, destroyed a mini supermarket and a two-storey flat on Hinckley Road, Leicester, on Sunday shortly after 7pm.

Announcing the arrests, officers said there remained no evidence the explosion had any connection with terrorism.

'No further details about these men, or the three others arrested on Wednesday and still in custody, will be released at this time'.

Firefighters battled blaze which was finally extinguished at around 8pm on Sunday evening, as emergency services and neighbours attempted to recover bodies from the wreckage.
