Since the feature is still in beta mode, it is still being tested and isn't stable as yet.

WhatsApp has started beta testing WhatsApp Payments in India.

With WhatsApp Payments, users can send and receive money from within WhatsApp with UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which means they don't have to rely on any other app for sending and receiving money.

WhatsApp Payments with UPI support has been spotted on Android and iOS beta versions of the app, according to reports. Tapping on "Payment" redirects you to a screen where you can link your UPI account.

WABetaInfo also shared the information regarding the new feature for the Android version, which will add participants in a group call. Putting it in simple words, the transaction will be successful if and only if payments option is available to both the transacting parties. Firstly, the number of users carrying out digital transactions using digital wallets and payments apps has increased since demonetization in 2016.

In case you can't see the option yet, you may have to wait for about 12 hours or till the next day as the rollout is gradually taking place.

When reached for comment on initial reports about WhatsApp payments, the firm gave the following statement past year: "India is an important country for WhatsApp, and we're understanding how we can contribute more to the vision of Digital India". If you happen to be one of the few fortunate ones out there, you can get to see the Payment option along with others such as Gallery, Documents, Location, Contacts, and Video in the "Attachments" menu in a chat. Once you click on the payment option, you can see the list of banks, from which you can select the bank with the linked account. If you don't have a UPI account yet, you'll have to make one.
