Interstate 95 became chaotic on Wednesday after a man killed a woman then fled on the interstate while driving the wrong way.

The deputy who shot at the suspect was not injured, a Palm Beach County sheriff's spokesperson told the Associated Press.

It all started, police say, when a man shot and killed a woman in a Lake Worth shopping center parking lot, stole her vehicle and led deputies on a wrong-way chase on I-95, causing a fatal crash before he was shot by sheriff's deputies.

The woman who was shot is described as a white female.

Bradshaw said the suspect may also have been involved in a shooting in West Palm Beach on Tuesday night. A man was shot but he's expected to be OK.

"It was enough to let the deputy know that he needed to do what he needed to do, trust me", Bradshaw said.

The other drivers involved in the wrecks on I-95 received non-life threatening injuries.

Northbound I-95 was closed between Lantana Road and Sixth Avenue in Lake Worth for much of the day, but all northbound lanes reopened shortly after 4 p.m.

The sheriff's office is investigating the two extensive crime scenes and the crashes and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting and use of a Taser by the trooper.

The School District of Palm Beach County said it was sending buses to schools earlier than usual for afternoon pick ups.

The chaos in Lantana was not related to a pre-dawn incident Wednesday in Boca Raton, where a man was, Boca Raton police said.
