Rochester's Polar Plunge is back, once again raising thousands of dollars for Special Olympics Minnesota. Over the years, the plunge has raised as much as $35,000, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman said.

Chattanooga Police Chief Roddy says the department is about to begin their fundraising efforts for this year's Special Olympics. Sokenu commended the teams' contributions to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities, and encouraged everyone to sign a pledge ending the use of the "R-word" before the student-athletes went outside.

By the way, you don't have to "plunge" to support the cause.

"The Polar Plunge is a great experience where everyone comes together to celebrate an awesome cause", Lyons said.

This event started with a parade, where everyone could show off their plunging costumes.

This is the largest fundraiser of the year for Special Olympics Illinois.

AURORA | Against all natural instinct, participants of the Special Olympics 2018 Polar Plunge made their way into the freezing water of Aurora Reservoir, Feb. 10.

More plunges are set to take place in northern MI throughout the rest of the month.
