The Pyeongchang Winter Games will run from February 9-25.

Later that day, Bach traveled to Jinbu Station, located in Pyeongchang County, using the new KTX high-speed train. "By now, already more than 14,000 tests (have been conducted) since April past year", Bach said. Ministry officials said they expect a joint training session between the countries' non-Olympic skiers at a North Korean ski resort to go on as planned this week.

Reuters, which supplies news and images for media organisations around the world, later pulled the images after complaints from the International Olympic Committee and the South Korean organisers.

The president said he was counting on a meaningful dialogue with global sports organizations.

"You see the athletes arriving", Bach said, "you see the snow, and everything is falling into place now".

After landing at Yangyang International Airport on a rare, chartered flight between the two countries, they declined to answer reporters' questions and boarded a bus for the athletes' village in one of the Games venues, Gangneung. He is set to chair the IOC's executive board meeting and its general session from February 3 to 8.

South Korea has expressed regret over North Korea's cancellation of a joint cultural event that was to be held before the start of next week's PyeongChang Olympics.

During the Rio Games, Jones had been live-tweeting while watching the games in the USA and posted a video of herself decked out in the American flag and wearing plastic gold medals.

South Korea urged the North to uphold all the agreements that had been made.

The ban against Russian Federation was an enormous blow to a country which has always prided itself on sporting achievements.

The suspension came amid far-reaching allegations of doping among the country's top athletes, including at the 2014 Winter Games which Russian Federation hosted in Sochi. While Russia is sidelined, its athletes are not: Russian athletes deemed clean of drugs will be allowed to compete as individuals.

Graf, who won bronze medals in the 3000 meters and team pursuit events at the 2014 Sochi Games, explained her decision in a Facebook post, as quoted by Reuters.

It was agreed the nations would march under a unified flag, and that there would be a combined women's ice hockey team, although it was reported on Monday the nations' players were suffering linguistic problems over differences in hockey terminology.
