According to informed sources, the tissue samples obtained from a suspect had matched the samples taken from the body of the victim.

If the police continued the probe in this way, DNA tests of 210 million people will have to be conducted, he said.

According to information, DNA of Imran Ali has matched with eight other innocent girls who had been murdered in same district during 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The suspect has confessed, the official said. He had previously been arrested in the case but was released.

Recent developments in Zainab's murder case have come forward. Sources also revealed to Daily Pakistan that a jacket of Zainab's killer that can be seen in the CCTV footage was recovered from the accused.

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed by the Punjab government to investigate the case had dispatched the samples of the suspect to the PFSA for DNA analysis a week ago.

Zainab Ansari was brutally assaulted and her body was thrown in a garbage dump. Her parents had been in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and she had been living with her maternal aunt. Autopsy report of Zainab confirmed that she was strangled to death after rape.

Zainab's murder triggered protests all over the country which saw two protesters being killed in clashes with police after violent mobs ransacked a hospital and the house of a ruling party's lawmaker. The incident also stirred a national outcry demanding justice for her.
