Holding Palestinian flags, the demonstrators, who gathered at Israeli military tower to protest against US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, were pushed by the soldiers who also used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the protest. "These are the bombs that the Israeli occupation is distributing today, at Christmas". "We have information that the U.S. administration may recognize Israel as a Jewish state, annex settlements and abolish the Palestinian right to return". Alongside they continue to deny a Jewish historical connection to Israel.

The on-going fallout from the US President's move has seen violence between Palestinians and Israeli security forces on nearly a daily basis.

Heavy clashes broke out between Israeli troops and Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem's Old City (al-Khalil), Bethlehem and Nablus in the West Bank as well as the besieged Gaza Strip, after Washington's decision.

Today (Saturday), Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh stated that in the upcoming months, the U.S. administration is expected to make further announcements regarding Jerusalem and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Palestinian men carry a man wounded during clashes with Israeli security forces, outside a hospital in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, on October 9, 2015.

"A message to the children of Palestine is that we are on the path to freedom, to [get] Jerusalem".

Many argue that the US's long standing role as an impartial mediator has come into question as its policies appear to edge increasingly in support of Israel's standing, something that would exacerbate tensions in the region further if the U.S. was to publicly announce Israel as Jewish state.
