Trump insults Arizona senator as 'Flake(y)'

The Arizona senator said GOP is toast if it becomes the "party of Roy Moore and Donald Trump".

President Donald Trump has had some of the lowest approval ratings of all time for a president this early in his first term.

Notwithstanding the publicly aired feudal thrusts and parries between President Trump and Senator Jeff Flake, the president's prediction of Flake being a "NO" on the tax reform bill is apparently untrue.

After the hour-long discussion ended, Flake stepped off the stage and into the audience. The sound from the mic to the speakers was muted. "Just for fun, think about how much fun it would be, just to be the foil, you know, and point out what an idiot this guy [Trump] is".

"And I am not throwing smoke at you, but you are the guy", Giles responded. It was not a surprising sentiment given Flake's previous criticism of Trump.

On Saturday at an event in Arizona, Flake was overheard on a nearby microphone talking with Mesa Mayor John Giles about Trump.

Giles didn't mention those comments in a statement to the TV station. Giles' office did not dispute the intent of the comment when specifically asked by ABC15.

He later tweeted a link to a story about the remark and said, "No news here". In the same speech, Flake announced he would not be seeking re-election to the Senate next year when his term expires.

More than two Republican defections would likely kill the bill.
