The 2016 Maui Jim Maui Invitational attracted more than 5,500 visitors and generated $16.3 million in visitor spending statewide.

The LSU men's basketball team rallied from a nine-point deficit with 5:11 to play to defeat MI, 77-75, in the Tigers' opening game of the 2017 Maui Jim Maui Invitational late Monday night at the Lahaina Civic Center. The victor will get an early NCAA Tournament resume building win. Notre Dame has also beaten DePaul, Mount St. Mary's, Chicago State, and Chaminade.

UND's T.J. Gibbs banked in a 3 to keep his team around, and Colson followed with a wing trey to make it a three-point game with six minutes left. At the half, the Irish were trailing Wichita State 37-23. But he picked up an offensive foul, giving the ball back to the Shockers. The group is now without forward Markis McDuffie, who led the team in points last season at 11.5.

The Tigers led MI for over 30 minutes of the game, but fell behind midway through the second half when the Wolverines finished a 20-6 run to turn a five-point Tigers lead into a 68-59 lead with 5:11 remaining. The freshman point guard finished with eight points on 2-of-7 shooting with three assists and three turnovers. The senior scored 25 points against Cal and 11 versus Marquette.

Notre dame is off for the next week before traveling to 4th ranked Michigan State on November 30th.

The Shockers will present additional size by way for 6-foot-9 forward Darral Willis Jr.

It started when Wichita State turned the ball over on the in-bounds play, as the ball was stripped from Austin Reaves and scored by Bonzie Colson (25 points, 11 rebounds).

Charles Matthews paced the Wolverines with 28 points, while Moritz Wagner notched 24 points.

After scraping past George Mason and Nebraska-Omaha, the Cardinals (3-0) had a surprisingly easy time against the Salukis (2-1) after the early moments. Forward Zach Brown rounds out the starting lineup, but is more of a defensive presence.

Braden Koelliker had 15 points to lead Chaminade, which went 5 for 22 from 3-point range to quash any chance of pulling off the upset.

-Matthews posted his first career double-double against Chaminade (22 points, 10 rebounds).

Colson made the all tournament team.

This is the toughest test for both teams early in the 2017-2018 season. The game, as expected, was never in doubt, the Wolverines' offense was too much to handle for the Division II school.

Notre Dame struggled a bit past year against West Virginia's press in the NCAA Tournament. Marquette faces Wichita State in Game 5 at 8:30 a.m. HST and Notre Dame takes on LSU in Game 8 at 5:30 p.m. HST. Marquette eventually cooled off but still shot 57.8 percent from the field and went 31-of-35 from the free-throw line.

Irish sophomore guard T.J. Gibbs jumps for a rebound during Notre Dame's 105-66 win over Chicago State on November 16 at Purcell Pavilion.

"When people are playing you like that, they're trying to speed you up and get you out of your comfort area".

Wichita State Shockers head coach Gregg Marshall yells to players during the game against College of Charleston in Koch arena.

Will either team show signs of fatigue tonight?

The Wolverines maintained control in the second half, pushing the lead until coach Beilein pulled his regulars. Both team's bench production and ability to relieve their respective starters could be the difference in the long run. To win the Maui Classic, this is the tournament. "But in the end, I think our size and strength wore them down".
