But Tuesday's news about the firing of King's "CBS This Morning" colleague, Charlie Rose, from both CBS and PBS over allegations of sexual misconduct, forced a change in the conversation. Two said that while they were working for Rose at his residences or were traveling with him on business, he emerged from the shower and walked naked in front of them.

The channel, where Rose had co-hosted "CBS This Morning" and was a contributing correspondent for "60 Minutes", had already suspended Rose on Monday.

Rose owned his interview show, even though PBS distributed it, and that raised questions of what recourse women who had complaints about his behaviour could do.

Nearly immediately, public broadcaster PBS moved to suspend distribution of the "Charlie Rose" show.

Rose issued an apology on Monday and said he had always felt he was "pursuing shared feelings", but now realises he was mistaken. "Charlie and I, we have worked together, been friends".

"This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program", he wrote.

Charlie Rose attends the TIME 100 Gala, celebrating the 100 most influential people in the world, at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in NY. We need to be such a place.

Kyle Godfrey-Ryan, one of Rose's former assistants, was 21 when she said Rose repeatedly called her to describe his fantasies of her swimming naked at the pool at his Long Island home while he watched from his bedroom.

PBS and Bloomberg will stop distributing Charlie Rose's eponymous show, Charlie Rose, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Washington Post spoke to eight women for the story about Rose, which focuses on his treatment of Charlie Rose employees between the late 1990s and 2011.

Megan Creydt, who worked as a co-ordinator on Rose's PBS show in 2005 and 2006, told the newspaper that she was sitting in the passenger seat as Rose drove in Manhattan one day when he put his hand on her thigh.

Rose addressed the allegations in a statement posted on Twitter. I don't like that, that's hard.' And then I think about what these women were going through...

"I am greatly embarrassed".

She said women can not achieve equality in the workplace and society unless there is a reckoning and taking of responsibility. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that. King conceded his point: "I thought about that too". "All of us, including me, are coming to a newer and deeper recognition of the pain caused by conduct in the past, and have come to a profound new respect for women and their lives".
