Jurgen Klopp doubtful over Philippe Coutinho fitness

James Milner believes his days as a Liverpool left-back are over after revealing Jurgen Klopp spoke to him about converting him back into a midfield role.

"Last season I was asked to do a job and I did that as best as I could", Milner told a news conference.

"The situation is what it is - I obviously miss playing but it's just a case of sink or swim".

"I played there (midfield) in training but there is nothing like playing in games". I was delighted but it's down to me to force my way into the team.

"(It has been) very frustrating. "I want to keep contributing". It's not sure that you'll score if you get a penalty, so it can happen.

"When I think about a lineup, the last game has influence, the next game never influences it".

So for me, as a player, you just want that chance to show.

They have several injury concerns for the game this week, but Klopp said: "I never take risks with the line-up".

"I hope both are involved in the session, that would give us an opportunity at least".

"When we showed it in Maribor it was pretty devastating".

"We want to win this game - that's 100 percent clear". First there are other games of course but I think I have to make something right for myself and for the team also against Liverpool.

"The result was not one per cent of our analysis".

Both Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren will train on Tuesday night as they look to recover from abductor and groin injuries respectively that kept them out of Saturday's win over Huddersfield.

"In this world respect is a big problem in general and after 7-0 people might not respect Maribor anymore, but we know how strong they can be".

Liverpool are not commenting on the situation although it is understood the club takes the security and well-being of their players and families very seriously, and will offer the centre-back all the support he requires, should he need it.

"But I can not ignore when my family is threatened".
