Gurto was wearing a camouflage jacket and had a backpack at the time of his arrest. Investigators identified the truck which was registered to an owner in the Buffalo, New York-area, Elliott said.

KDKA-TV learned Thursday that state police were searching for Gurto in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. He had fled the area, prompting a massive manhunt spearheaded by the U.S. Marshal Service.

Joshua Dale Gurto, the man accused of raping and killing a 13-month-old Conneaut girl, camped in the woods and hitchhiked as he eluded law enforcement.

State police are asking the public for help in locating him.

Conneaut police said Friday that they have dealt with Gurto in the past, but regarding "nothing too serious".

The girl died as a result of blunt force trauma on the morning of October 6 at an apartment on Clark Street in Conneaut, police said.

Those who traveled on I-79 and may have spotted a man walking between Neville Island Bridge and Wexford between 4:30 and 7 p.m. Tuesday are asked to contact PA Crime Stoppers at 1-800-472-8477. The preliminary autopsy revealed that Sutley died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The mother found the girl unresponsive at around 5:15 a.m. and reportedly screamed.
