Notre Dame loss to Georgia crosses up scheduling strategy

Dual-threat quarterback Brandon Wimbush put up 106 yards on the ground in addition to his 184 in the air in his first Notre Dame start. It is hard to imagine Notre Dame being any more surrounded by hostiles when it plays at Georgia in 2019. "But we're not going to be able to beat teams that we play down the road if we play the way we played tonight". "He knows his role and we know our role". "It's on coach (Jim) Chaney to make make the right calls". That includes the ability to audible into a better play at the line of scrimmage when needed.

No question, it's a big deal. "And so I think when you see a stat like that, that's the first thing that jumps to my mind is a group of guys who isn't out there necessarily thinking of X, Y and Z, but I know my assignment and I'm going to go play fast and exhibit the traits, the physicality, the speed, the quickness that is why I'm at where I'm at".

Graduate student tight end Durham Smythe has been cleared from the concussion protocol and will not be limited at all Saturday. So, in a game I don't have a strong feel on, I'll lay the reasonable line with the home team. Yes the timing in the Irish passing game wasn't quite there, but at the same time, the Notre Dame offense did not start slow like I thought they would and this game was hardly ever in doubt.

Georgia: Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm was filling in for the injured Jacob Eason and making his first career start. The redshirt sophomore QB scored from one yard out to give the Irish a 10-3 lead after Fromm's fumble. Georgia is playing under second-year head coach Kirby Smart.

"Very businesslike", Smart said of the two. In the fourth quarter I saw those lights come up and it was insane. They were so eager to get there, in fact, that none was willing to give up their seat on a Friday morning flight and take a later flight - until the price was right.

The Bulldogs were knocking on the goal line when Georgia chose to run a fade to Godwin. I think Notre Dame will slow Michel and Chubb early before eventually wearing down and dropping this one late in the game. "(Fromm will) do a great job for them". The first regular-season meeting between the storied programs was a hard-hitting, penalty filled tug-o-war.

"We played well enough defensively", Kelly said, "for us to say we've put our defense now in a position that we can play with anyone".

"If you let these guys go through to the second level and you're relying on your safeties one-on-one from 12 yards off to make tackles, they need to be of National Football League pedigree to make those tackles consistently", Kelly said this week". Not with grown adults tweeting at kids to tell them how bad they are. "That's all we can do is keep preparing and get ready for next week".

Despite all the compliments Kelly had for the Bulldogs' running backs, Michel was well-aware that Fromm will receive the vast majority of the attention from outside observers Saturday.

"I like that Saturday's game is a high-profile game at night and will be one of the top games of the weekend".

Per usual, both teams' quarterbacks will be a focal point in this one, albeit for different reasons.

No. 25 Tennessee 42, Indiana State 7 • Ty Chandler returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a TD, Carlin Fils-aime had two scoring runs and the Vols (2-0) breezed to victory.
