Matthew Broderick will be taking part in Fox's upcoming live musical A Christmas Story!

Inspired by both the 1983 film and the Broadway production A Christmas Story: The Musical, the three-hour telecast will be executive produced by Grease: Live's Marc Platt and Adam Siegel. Earlier this summer, casting calls went out trying to find someone to play a young Raphie Parker.

Matthew Broderick is coming to Fox for the holidays.

A Christmas Story Live! will air Sunday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. on Fox. The tuner was based on the motion picture A Christmas Story, written by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Bob Clark, and the novel In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd. The movie has become an iconic staple during the holidays and it focuses on a boy, Ralphie Parker reliving his childhood memories with fun, humor, and laughter of how one Christmas he wanted a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas.

Since I haven't seen the musical version myself, I can't say with certainty if Old Ralphie has to do too much singing himself in the live show, but if he does, Broderick is more than capable.

Oscar- and Tony-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen wrote the original music for A Christmas Story: The Musical and will compose several songs for the event. TV Line reports that Broderick will play the adult version of Ralphia in the special.
