FBI Director Christopher Wray is warning that terrorist are looking to use drones to carry out attacks in the U.S.

According to the report however, independent data reveals that the number of attacks carried out and planned by white supremacists is nearly double those undertaken by Islamists.

"I think we do know that terrorist organizations have an interest in using drones", Wray testified in a hearing for the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

When it comes to homeland security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now looking into roughly 1,000 domestic terrorism cases, which is nearly on par with the number of jihadi terrorist threats, said Christopher Wray, who took over as Federal Bureau of Investigation director in August.

In 2016, 176 people in the US were arrested on suspicion of links to domestic terrorism, Wray said according to ABC News.

Democrat Senator Claire McAskill said the number of domestic terrorism crimes in the United States was three times that of foreign terrorism since September 11, 2001, noting that the number of victims of domestic terrorism was 106, compared to 119 for foreign terrorism. "That's our concern - it's not ideology".

"No, we do not", Wray said. "We also work a lot with state and local law enforcement who can sometimes bring straightforward, easy-to-make cases - homicide cases, things like that".

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill said attacks by white supremacists and anti-government are "almost triple" those carried out by people inspired or tied to global terrorist organizations.

"[Most people] would assume that the threat from ISIS influence is much greater, and the reality and the facts don't support that", she said.

People who might have traveled to join ISIS may decide to "stay put" in their own countries following defeats ISIS has suffered in Iraq and Syria, Wray said, according to the Post.

This was the first public testimony from Mr Wray, since he was confirmed as FBI Director in August after President Trump fired James Comey in May.
