The Chilean has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, where he would reunite with former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.

However, speaking on The Debate - our new nightly show on Sky Sports Premier League - Merson insists the Gunners could change their stance if it was the Ligue 1 champions that came calling.

Ozil is not the only player, however, into the final year of his contract and Arsenal will also have to sort out the futures of Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before the close of the transfer window. Manchester City are set to sign defender Nicolas Freire from Argentinos Juniors.

"If he went to City there would be uproar from the Arsenal fans".

It's little wonder some of Europe's elite might look to poach the Chile worldwide after Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal is "not super optimistic" that it will be able to keep hold of star striker Alexis Sanchez beyond this season, according to reports.

Not only were fans delighted about the transfer and how much was spent in acquiring the player, but also internal bodies at the club from Wenger and the Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, with the latter describing Ozil as a "world-class player, who is one of Europe's brightest young talents".

"They are not anxious about the money because they aren't the ones getting it".

"The problem if he does stay is that he's only staying for six months really". He was showing his frustrations and it didn't look good.

"I believe he will make the move", said Koeman.

With the 2017-2018 season kicking off tomorrow at the Emirates against Leicester City and with the German yet to sign a contract as he enters the past year on his contract, he (Ozil) does have a big decision to make and the events of this season could prove vital in his decision making.
