We just wanted to comment on how motivating it is to see the community come together to support the efforts of Stuff the Bus and, more specifically, the supply drive for The Foundry.

Those supplies are being handed to kids between kindergarten to second grade.

But volunteers told us they've not had the turn out they were expecting.

Wednesday morning, a celebration at Char-Broil in Columbus helped wrap up an nearly 6-week campaign where 33 area schools between Muscogee, Harris, Russell, and Phenix City Schools will be receiving supplies and backpacks.

"Each student will receive a pack that is full of a complete list of school supplies".

According to Stacy Williams, the district's transportation manager, the cheerleading squad, the Air Force Junior ROTC cadets, members of the school's football team and members of the Middle School Character Council will be giving a helping hand placing donations aboard the bus.

Afterward, the sculptures will be dismantled and used to help fill backpacks for students. This year's goal is about 400.

The supplies the school district is asking people to donate are the same basic supplies students are required to have before school begins on August 17.

She said previous year the event helped a grandma who had recently gained custody of her grandkids. "If we did this weekly, we might have enough", she said.

She said it was a big relief to the woman, as it is to many others. "It gives those students who do not have the supplies at the beginning of the school year a chance to be at the same level".

You can also drop off supplies at the Bloxham Building, 725 South Calhoun St. 9 a.m.to 3 p.m.
