Holborn station evacuated after smoke engulfs platform during London rush hour

Panicked passengers said they heard a loud bang, and then smoke filled the platforms.

"It was an overheated compressor on a train not a fire", the press release said.

The authorities were called to the scene after receiving reports of a "loud bang" and smoke around 9:20am on Tuesday.

Videos and images posted online showed smoke filling the platform and emergency services outside the station.

"Lots of people ran but others encouraged people to walk and situation was calm", she said.

There are severe delays on the Central line after a reported fire at Holborn station, in the West End.


It comes just four days after two people were taken to hospital following a fire on a train at Oxford Circus. I was towards back of crowd'.

At the same time, according to the London metro, the incident was associated with the malfunction of the train.

The reason was a damaged train, the transport police said.
