"I think we've participated in a lot of challenges on the internet, some meaningful, come meaningless, but we've all done them", Hart said in a video posted onto Instagram Sunday where he says he will donate $25,000 to the Red Cross. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Steve Harvey, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Jerry Seinfeld were all mentioned.

Philadelphia funnyman Kevin Hart got serious in a challenge to support people impacted by flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey and he hopes some celebrity friends join him.

The Philadelphia-born comedian, who won his first break in 2001 when cast for a recurring role on TV series Undeclared, has committed to donating $25,000 (£19,000) to the American Red Cross to go towards relief efforts.

He continued, "At this point, it's a serious matter". I think that people are in bad shape and they need help.

As Harvey lashed southeastern Texas over the weekend, celebrities rallied for the relief effort.

Also Sunday, country star Chris Young announced on Twitter that he has started an online fundraiser for the Red Cross and donated $100,000 to it. 'I've just been caught up to speed with everything that's going on in Houston with Hurricane Harvey and this shit is unbelievable. I'm going to lead the charge by stepping up in this way'. The Canadian rapper wrote that Houston "has truly been a home to me over the last 8 years".

Also, during the MTV Video Music Awards Awards on Sunday, host Katy Perry touched upon the catastrophic event.

According to reports, Texas and parts of Louisiana have received at least two feet of rain and a reprieve isn't expected until the end of the week at the earliest.
