Windows 10 Timeline Feature Won't Arrive with Fall Creators Update

End of service means that users with Windows 10 version 1507 will no longer receive security patches - part of the monthly "quality" updates issued by the company - in the future. For those of you who are running an earlier version of Windows 10, get ready to see reminders in the weeks ahead.

Microsoft will be releasing the Fall Creators' preview, and subsequently the updated version of ATP, sometime between September and October, which is when we can expect to start seeing the ATP updates (and perhaps some more in-depth information as to how well it performs).

"To remain secure your device should be updated to the latest feature update".

"If an app attempts to make a change to these files, and the app is blacklisted by the feature, you'll get a notification about the attempt", Microsoft explains.

That said, at least a complete clean installation will actually work to clear out problems and bugs, unless you're running particularly nasty state-actor level malware, but for most people, such drastic action won't be needed, and nor will such high-level malware be part of the problem. Unfortunately, if you're one of the many Windows 10 users eagerly awaiting its arrival, we've some bad news. From what Microsoft showed us at Build, the timeline view has been created to help you pick up where you left off in a heartbeat.

You won't then be immediately forced to update, with Cable careful to note that "we are not changing the update experience itself".

The real lesson here is that messaging in a time of agile development and Windows as a Service (WaaS) is challenging to say the least.

There's also a specific page at Microsoft that can help you to "Verify you're updated" if you'd like to manually check that you're running the most up-to-date Windows 10 OS.

When Microsoft showed off the Fall Creators Update, one of the key updates coming to the platform is called TimeLine. The company has also clarified to users that the Latest update will not be installed forcibly after the confirmation of the privacy settings.
