They say that we can expect scattered thunderstorms with bouts of heavy rain from Wednesday morning.

THUNDERSTORMS and flood warnings have been issued by weather experts as Britain's extreme summer conditions take another dramatic turn following the intense heatwave.

Although the storms may ease in the middle of tomorrow, they could then return on Wednesday evening, the Met Office added.

Oli Claydon, a Met Office spokesman, said some areas would see between 20mm and 30mm of rainfall in an hour.

Thundery showers are expected to push north across the country from this evening and turn more widespread as it continues.

Frequent lightning may pose the risk of disruption to power networks on both days across all regions, it added.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for rain between just after midnight tonight and 10pm tomorrow.

Looking ahead past the weather warning shows some cooler temperatures, with Thursday through until the weekend expected to remain around 18C.

'This may result in surface water flooding, particularly should these amounts fall across urban areas'. Similarly, but very locally, hail may cause impacts.

It warns people to "be aware" and check for subsequent local warnings of flooding, as well as keeping an eye on weather reports and travel information.
