Trump offers to help resolve Gulf crisis, UAE tightens squeeze on Qatar

In an interview with BBC radio, UAE Ambassador to Russia Omar Saif Ghobash said Qatar had to choose between supporting extremism or supporting its neighbours. "We ask Qatar and other nations in the region to do more and do it faster", he added.

Kavakci Kan, who is also a member of Turkey's foreign affairs parliamentary committee, said that Ankara will honour its commitments with Qatar and the two countries' relationship will not change.

"The relations between Qatar and the United States are of the historic nature and last in decades".

Kuwait says Qatar is "willing to hold a dialogue" with Arab nations that have cut diplomatic ties.

The four Arab countries named in a statement 59 people, including Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yousef al-Qaradawi, and 12 entities, among them Qatari-funded charities Qatar Charity and Eid Charity. Confirming claims by a Qatari human rights organisation on the impact on families, Amnesty said the blockade was already splitting families and "sowing fear". The port of Dayyer is Iran's closest port to Qatar. Qatar denies the allegations.

Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino on Sunday said he was confident the diplomatic crisis posed no threat to the 2022 edition of the World Cup, which raked in $4.8 billion in 2014 in Brazil, according to a Federation Internationale de Football Association report.

But it has fallen out with its Arab neighbours, who accuse it of sponsoring extremist groups, some of them allegedly linked to arch Saudi foe Iran, fomenting trouble across the region.

Qatar denies it backs extremist groups and says the allegations are politically motivated and meant to tarnish the country's image. "So far five planes carrying perishable food items such as fruit and vegetables have been sent to Qatar, each carrying around 90 tonnes of cargo, while another plane will be sent today", Iran Air spokesman Shahrokh Noushabadi told AFP.

- Turkish exporters are ready to meet demand for food and water from Qatar, the head of Turkey's main exporting trade body told Reuters.

A ban could now follow in countries that sided with Saudi Arabia in the global row including the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Yemen and Bahrain. The U.S. has roughly 10,000 troops in Qatar, and relies on a major base there as the staging ground for operations in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday accused Qatar of funding terrorism "at a very high level", urging the Gulf Arab country to stop the funding.

"The state of Qatar, in accordance to its firm beliefs and principles, works on avoiding political conflicts with states and governments when dealing with their people", the ministry said.

"Kuwait stresses the need for the dispute to be resolved within the Gulf framework", Sheikh Sabah said in a statement quoted by the KUNA news agency.
