They're Making A Studio Ghibli Theme Park In Japan

My Neighbor Totoro, released in 1988, is easily one of Ghibli's most beloved properties - the studio has taken the Totoro character as its mascot, and incorporated him into the studio's logo.

The prefecture is aiming to open "Ghibli Park" in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture's Expo Memorial Park in the 2020s.

The goal is for Ghibli Park to open in early 2020.

My Neighbor Totoro will be the main theme for the park, but there will also be a heavy focus on the environment.

According to Suzuki and Omura, Studio Ghibli will open its "Ghibli Park" within Aichi's Expo Park. Ghibli fans can now travel to the Ghibli Museum, which is located in an area of west Tokyo called Mitaka, but the 200-acre theme park will be the largest installation Ghibli has ever done.

Perhaps coincidentally, Fathom Studios is bringing My Neighbor Totoro to select theaters in the USA later in June as part of Studio Ghibli Fest 2017.

One of the things that makes the place special is that there's a replica of Satsuki and Mei's house, and it's not your average exhibit. It was the same park that hosted the World's Fair back in 2005.

Fans of this particular animated film will definitely enjoy roaming around the Ghibli Park!

The attraction will be built in Echo Park, located in Nagoya, Japan's Aichi prefecture. In the meantime, you can catch your favorite Studio Ghibli movies at Ghibli Fest this summer, kicking off with Totoro, or head to the Ghibli Museum in Japan.
