Six civilians were killed and at least 30 injured Saturday night after terrorists drove a vehicle into pedestrians on London Bridge, and then stabbed others at a nearby market, police said.

The president notes the attackers used a van to slam into pedestrians and then assaulted people with knives.

Police announced the two incidents at London Bridge and Borough Market were "terrorist incidents" and warned people to avoid the area while emergency vehicles responded to the attacks.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has condemned the "evil" ideology behind recent terror attacks. We need to work with allied, democratic governments to reach global agreements that regulate cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremism and terrorist planning.

Police tweeted a warning telling people in the area to run to safety, hide and then call police if it was safe to do so.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan spoke of a "cowardly attack on innocent Londoners and visitors to our city enjoying their Saturday night".

Damien Pettit, 31, said he thought one of the attackers was possibly a neighbour who lived on the ground floor of his apartment block.

England has been on edge since May 22, when a suicide bomber killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena. Witness Elsbeth Smedley told CNN that a man ran into Elliot's, a cafe in Borough Market, and stabbed two people before running out.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick earlier told reporters: "We believe the threat that they posed was neutralised". He said he saw someone jump into the water in fear.

A forensic officer works at the scene on London Bridge. "If we don't get smart it will only get worse", Trump tweeted.

Witness Shimma Ali, 32, said it was terrifying to see dozens of armed officers in the street.

A line of police tape was put in place around the flat and crowds of locals looked on as officers guarded the perimeter.

"This is a fast-moving investigation and we have significant resources deployed both to the investigation and to the visible patrols that people will be seeing as they wake up this morning".

Soon after, armed officers responded to reports of a stabbing at Borough Market, just one-third of a mile away from the London Bridge.
