The fourth-seeded Muguruza is trying to avoid becoming the first reigning champion at Roland Garros to lose in the second round since 2014, when she upset Serena Williams at that stage.

Almost two months after Serena Williams announced that she and fiance Alexis Ohanian are expecting, it seems as if her sister Venus Williams has accidentally let slip the sex of Alexis and Serena's unborn child. Instead of sitting courtside during changeovers in a French Open match, she was in the stands, happy to watch her sister play as she awaits the birth of her first child in September.

Serena is expecting the daughter with Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit.

The conversation quickly turned from her win against Japan's Kurumi Nara to Serena's pregnancy news.

The gaffe in question occurred during an interview after Venus's recent second-round French Open win. Serena quickly shot down the rumors, saying she still unaware of whether the child is a boy or a girl.

"So, if she says Australian Open, it's going to be the Australian Open".

On Thursday morning, Serena took to Instagram to clarify her older sister's comments, noting that they only grew up with sisters around, and that she nor her fiance, Alexis Ohanian, have any plans to learn the sex of their baby until he or she is born. "I knew it was going to be a battle out there".

Speaking to Eurosport, she said: "Every day we're like, "Baby V, baby Isha, baby Lyn" so we all want the baby to be named after us".

The 35-year-old has said previously that she's waiting to find out the gender. I don't want to lose my touch.' That was her joke, talking about losing her touch. You'd still like Venus to clean up a combined 74 unforced errors, but with her return ability and the fact she's produced eight breaks, it hasn't come back to bite her yet. "You never stop learning and that's what I love about the game". "I feel good. I did not have as much time to prepare as I wanted".

Her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, said Serena recently texted him "and she said: 'It's going to sound weird, but I'm going on the court".
