Benfica signed Candeias from Nacional in 2014 but he never made a competitive appearance for the Portuguese champions, spending loan spells in four different countries with Nurnberg, Granada, Metz and Alanyaspor.

The 29-year-old winger became the Ibrox outfit's fifth summer signing - with Caixinha now turning his attention to the capture of Graham Dorrans.

As Caixinha seeks to offload existing Rangers players, it is understood that Ipswich Town are edging closer to a deal for Ibrox striker Joe Garner.

Candeias has worked with manager Pedro Caixinha before; the pair had a stint together at Portuguese side Nacional, and most recently spent the season on loan in Turkey with Alanyaspor where he scored four times in 30 appearances.

Rangers announced the signing of wide forward Daniel Candeias on Sunday afternoon from Portuguese giants Benfica - and the club's supporters were delighted on Twitter.

"He is also very skillful on the set-pieces like corners and wide free-kicks, and he is someone who really sacrifices to help the team all the time, both in attack and defence, and I believe he is going to help us to have strong play particularly in the wide areas".

'Pedro called me and explained everything about the club and the project, ' Candeias told Rangers TV.

"It is much easier for me to have guys who already know the message to spread the message". It is a big club in Europe and because of that I wanted to sign for the team. Having finished 39 points behind Celtic last season, they need all the help they can get.

"The coach knows me really well and it was with him that I gave my best performances", said Candeias.
