"Manchester City are delighted to announce Ederson will join the Club from Benfica on 1 July".

The 23-year-old signing said: "I like everything about Manchester City". This is a great club, the league they have here in England and they have awesome fans and they play splendid football.

Bravo's introduction to English football proved to be infamously torrid and he lost his place to Hart's former understudy Willy Caballero before a calf injury curtailed a return to the first team.

Ederson started his football career in 2008 at Brazilian club São Paulo FC with whom he played one season, before joining Benfica. "Those were important factors in my decision". The great team that City are. the fans are unbelievable, the football is fantastic and I've always had a dream to play in the Premier League.

Reigning Primeira Liga champions Benfica initially revealed the deal last week, releasing a statement to the Portuguese Stock Market (CMVM) claiming that a €40m (£34.7m, $44.9m) price had been agreed between the two clubs. I think they managed to have a good season. "Next season, we will have to be focused to achieve the goal of winning trophies", he added.

Ederson will become the Blues' fourth Brazilian alongside Fernandinho, Fernando and Gabriel Jesus and is one of the brightest young goalkeeper prospects in world football.

A total of 56 saves and 12 goals conceded gives him a save percentage of 82.35, a comfortably better return than Caballero (70.45 per cent) and Hart (62.87 per cent), while Bravo conceded 26 goals, set against 33 saves, to leave his percentage dwindling at 55.93.

His arrival will place more pressure on Claudio Bravo, who has had a hard first season since arriving from Barcelona to take over from Joe Hart as City's number one.

However, Gianluigi Buffon's €50 million move from Parma to Juventus in 2001 does remain top in Euros, being €10 million more than City paid for Ederson.
