Kevin Durant, Warriors embarrass Cavaliers in Game 1, 113-90: 3 takeaways

1. Just watch LeBron: Although the Cavaliers are known for their Big Three, it's really just James and a supporting cast.

Whether it's a reassurance that any contending team will need at least one superstar or the fact that there are only a handful of teams who are serious title contenders, there are plenty of reasons to like and dislike another Finals with the Cavaliers and Warriors. Durant then put the finishing touches on his terrific night, answering with back-to-back three-pointers before he and the rest of Golden State's starters subbed out at the 2:15 mark with the game well in hand. Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James answers questions before an NBA basketball practice, Wednesday, May 31, 2017, in Oakland, Calif. The only thing that kept Cleveland in the game in the first half was the usually brilliant play from James and Irving and several missed layups by Golden State. Nor could we have foreseen the Warriors heading back for their third straight Finals appearance.

Here he is, an assistant coach thrown into the head coaching job for the Warriors because real head coach Steve Kerr is still not feeling well enough to be on the bench during games.

Not that anyone expected any different.

With the 2017 NBA Finals tipping off on Thursday night (June 1), we will see the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers complete for the title for the third straight time.

Perhaps most noteworthy, it gives Durant the chance at a first championship and validation for his decision to leave the Thunder and join the league's latest super team.

The most breathtaking stat was that the Warriors missed 15 layups in the first half, some because of rust and some because of weird luck, but seeing them get 39 shots in the paint in such a game of effect in just 24 minutes was mesmerizing.

"It's been a long journey, some ups and downs but it's well worth it once you get here in the Finals", Williams said.

This matchup has seemed ordained since James walked off the court in Oakland last June, having delivered his native northeast OH its first major team championship since 1964. Many people prefer Michael Jordan to LeBron. "I got a promotion when I got to the 30s".

Kevin Durant can dunk. "My only motivation is to be able to compete for a championship every single year".

The acquisition sent quakes throughout the National Basketball Association and all but assured the Warriors, who went on to post the league's best record, a ticket back to the Finals. But due to a flagrant foul from Draymond Green, he was suspended for the game, allowing the Cavs to get back in it. Barnes was a key reserve on the "We Believe" team in 2007 that made it to the second round of the playoffs and said his heart never left the East Bay.

Below are some of the highlights, but you can see the full results here.

Cavaliers-Warriors Part III of their NBA Finals trilogy has begun and Golden State guard Stephen Curry is wearing a sleeve on his right arm in Game 1.

Series pricing has the Cavaliers series at +215 and the Warriors at -255. But this also may be the best all-around version of James, who is averaging 32.5 points on almost 57 percent shooting, and adding 8.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. The contract was worth $20 million where the first four years were guaranteed and the last year somewhat guaranteed.

James' first trip to the Finals came 10 years ago when the Cavs were swept by San Antonio. However, make no mistake, Coach Kerr is constantly involved in the background working with Brown and others even though he can not physically be on the sidelines. After adding several new players (including one game-changing acquisition we'll get to below) this is a team out for vengeance that's looking to cement its legacy as an all time great team.

"It feels a little surreal", Brown said. He would finish with 28 points on 11-of-22 shooting, including 6-of-11 on 3-pointer in 32 minutes in Game 1. James has called Golden State a "juggernaut" but the Warriors aren't buying all that talk.
