Tension prevails in Kozhikode as CPI (M)-BJP clashes continue.

The Nadakavu police have registered a case against unidentified assailants in connection with the attack on CPM district office and CPM district secretary.

Barring isolated incidents of violence, the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kozhikode district of Kerala in protest against hurling of bombs at their District Committee (DC) office here passed off peacefully.

It was at 1.15am on Friday, after CPI (M) district Secretary Mohanan visited the district office that steel bombs were hurled at the office.

A party worker sustained injuries as one of the bombs exploded on the premises around 1am yesterday. Noticing that Sanesh had clicked the incidents, almost 20 men attacked him and destroyed his camera.

On Friday, BJP had also called for a hartal in rural Kozhikode, Vadakara, Koyilandy, Kuttiyadi, Nadapuram and Perambra protesting against the attack on the RSS office at Vadakara on Thursday night.

Two photographers including P. Saneesh of The New Indian Express were attacked reportedly by CPI (M) activists at Palayam and their cameras destroyed when they tried to take pictures of the hartal. Hartal supporters forcibly downed shutters of shops in the city.

CPI-M had alleged that BJP-RSS was behind the attack. Private cars and even two- wheeler were detained though the leaders announced that vehicles would be exempted from the hartal.
