Judge clouts 22nd homer, propels Yankees past Angels 5-3

The left-hander struck out three batters in the first inning and pitched out of trouble in the second following Schoop's 454-foot homer into the elevated bleachers beyond Baltimore's bullpen in left-center. They won the World Series in each of the previous eight seasons this happened (1998, 1953, 1939, 1937, 1936, 1932, 1928, 1927).

Which all-time great Yankee has Judge set his sights on for the most home runs as a rookie (36)? Ben Zobrist and Miguel Montero also homered for Chicago, which ended a four-game losing streak to return to.500.

The Orioles can only hope they're relevant in September.

Judge immediately heard "MVP!" chants from the crowd - many of whom were cheering for the Bombers - following his MLB-leading 22nd homer of the year. He took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning before allowing a two-run homer by Justin Smoak.

The weekend featured a 1.1 inning start from right-hander Chris Tillman June 10 and the 16 runs by the Yankees were the most the Orioles allowed in almost five years.

Stanton's shot narrowly cleared the massive green wall beyond center field in the third inning and was estimated at 449 feet by Statcast.

"There's not a hole, you know?"

The Yankees' offense is impressive.

Hicks homered twice and rookie Jordan Montgomery pitched seven stellar innings to lead NY over the Baltimore Orioles 8-2 on Friday night.

Norris fell behind in the count 2-0 before grooving a 91 miles per hour fastball over the middle of the plate, and Judge hammered it at least 10 rows into the seats in right-center field. "It's easy just to go up there frustrated and just give an at-bat away".

"I've seen him hit homers, but that one today is incredible", Sanchez said through an interpreter. "This series, tip your cap to the Yankees and let's get the hell out of here". They jumped ahead 6-0 in the first inning of Saturday's 16-3 win. Almost a quarter of Boston's first 56 games were against Baltimore, but the teams won't play again until August 25. They're 10-20 on the road.

The start is just another in a stretch of five excellent starts for Severino.

"We're neck-and-neck with this team and this division is going to be bunched up for the foreseeable future", Boston manager John Farrell said. "There'll be better days".

It's hard to believe that the team was considering starting Judge's season in Triple-A. Mark Trumbo led off the inning with a walk, ending the flawless game bid, and Trey Mancini hit a one out single to break up that no-no.

"It was just unacceptable on my part".

"You have to tell yourself you're good, too", Judge said. He assesses the pitch and makes adjustments, but he no longer frets about what he might have missed or might have done wrong.

After Tillman gave up six runs in the first inning June 10, Gausman's first inning was almost as bad. "But let's get the hell out of NY, let's go to Chicago, redeem ourselves and just flip the script".

While the Yankees are hitting well, Gausman blamed himself.

"I'm not going to fault our guys, especially when you get down". "Had good concentration on the mound, felt like I was able to execute all my pitches well". His hitting streak is at 14 games. Obviously, the combination of us not pitching well.

"Bad execution, real poor execution", Tillman said. The last time Tillman used his two-seam fastball was briefly in 2014, throwing the pitch 17 times, holding all five batters hitless.

"I feel good. I have full extension and good flexibility, " Kaprielian said.

Yankees: RHP Masahiro Tanaka, originally slated to start, was pushed back to Monday in Anaheim. "I don't see why I wouldn't. We're kind of getting into the who area now".

The next time the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox meet, summer will be winding down and football season will nearly be here.

"He hit off the tee. Next step is to take some batting practice tomorrow", Showalter said. It's a step forward. "So he gets that feeling of everything being right". With as good a slider as he's had this season and a solid splitter as well, Tanaka struck out eight. That's about as much of an update without guessing.

The Orioles are 0-5 this season without Machado in the lineup. Bummer. On the plus side, they still won the ballgame by a score of 5-3 and secured their sixth win in a row.
