Rose is expected to be a major player in The Last Jedi - she even earned a spot on the Vanity Fair cover alongside Finn, Poe, and BB-8. Laura Dern's role was under wraps until now, but the photoshoot announced her name as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo. With the tragic death of Carrie Fisher late previous year, could Admiral Holdo be destined for a promotion in subsequent films to fill that tragic Leia-shaped gap?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on December 15. There's also at least one other rumored standalone film about the early adventures of another fan favorite character. The relationship between Vanity Fair and Star Wars stretches back long ago and far, far away to when Leibovitz captured the cast of The Phantom Menace for the series's return in 1999. How are you going to celebrate Star Wars' 40th Birthday? It is well known that Luke Skywalker was barely in The Force Awakens and that he will have a large part in The Last Jedi.

"The minute she finished, she grabbed me and said, 'I'd better be at the forefront of IX!' because (co-star) Harrison (Ford) was front and centre on (episode) VII, and Mark (Hamill) is front and centre on VIII".

For the stunning photos and the interviews detailing both the film and how the cast members have reacted to Carrie Fisher's sudden passing, click on over to the Vanity Fair cover story. After the actress died unexpectedly last December, the Star Wars creative team had to radically change its plans for the upcoming Episode IX. Imagine that - you get taken down by Kylo Ren. A particular standout features Hamill and Fisher in costume together.
