Former Ivory Coast and Newcastle United midfielder, Cheick Tiote has passed away after collapsing during a training session.

And earlier this year, Tottenham youth coach and former England star Ugo Ehiogu collapsed at the club's training ground.

He moved to the Premier League to join Newcastle in 2010 and made over 150 appearances for the Toon before leaving for China at the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

Tiote, a defensive midfielder, then signed for Newcastle in 2010 for £3.5m.

He will always be remembered by Newcastle fans for his famous goal in the closing stages of the 4-4 draw against Arsenal in 2011.

"We can not say any more at the moment and we request that his family's privacy be respected at this hard time". "We ask for all your prayers".

Tiote had been a mainstay for Beijing Enterprises, starting all 11 matches to date this season.

Tiote also scored once in 52 appearances for the Ivory Coast between 2009 and 2015.

Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this hard time. In the all the time that I have known him, he was a true professional, dedicated and above all, a great man. "Always going to be remember our time together at #nufc RIP my friend".
