Elderly Man Viciously Beaten With Cane In Unprovoked Attack

60-year-old Morty Vaughan who lives close to Llorens said people from the neighborhood are still looking for the suspect. He was young and skinny. Thanks to the effort of this good-samaritan, the attacker was unable to hit the victim any further and flees the spot. He has already forgiven the attacker - but is still flabbergasted as to why the younger man suddenly snapped.

"This could have ended up as a homicide", Llorens told the Daily News when he had returned to his apartment. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for lacerations to the head and ear.

Llorens was a history teacher back in Cuba, and started life over in the United States, where he took a job as a butcher on 137th Street, working six days a week to make a new life for his small family, said his son.

A man was caught on video attacking a 90-year-old man for seemingly no reason in Inwood on Friday, and police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect. According to his neighbors, Juan spends his day collecting cans from residents for recycling. "He's intimidated now", he told the New York Post.

Locals were horrified the see the cowardly assault on the neighborhood icon.

The motive for the elderly man's assault remains under investigation, but appears to be unprovoked, sources said.

Cops describe the suspected attacker as dark skinned, 20 to 30 years old, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 and around 150 pounds.


"Police say the suspect is an approximately 5'9", 150 pound dark skinned male in his 20's who was last seen wearing a blue cap, a black shirt, and box print trousers.
